Growth Mindset: Excitement's role in Learning

Learning with Passion and Enthusiasm
This video was short, but it packed a lot of information in. I wasn't surprised by the core message--that you learn better about things you're excited about, but learning about the reason was informative. I would have said it's because you're more likely to spend more time on things you're interested in, and have more intrinsic motivation to learn about it. It's interesting that it's rooted in your body's neurotransmitters, and that dopamine plays such a strong role in learning.

Thinking about the temporal element of it was interesting as well--just finding instant gratification, or dopamine in short bursts, isn't effective. It takes an ongoing excitement or anticipation to actually contribute to your learning.

This video piqued my curiosity but was too short to fully satisfy it. I'd definitely like to learn more about different studies that're done about the link between dopamine and learning, and see what ways of releasing dopamine are most effective, or what types of things you pick up best when you're channeling that excitement. This Ted Talk looks like a good next place to continue learning.

Finally, here's an image about neurotransmitters and happiness I thought was funny:
